One of the most intense neck injuries a person can experience is whiplash.

The forceful, rapid back-and-forth thrusting of your neck causes tendons and ligaments around your brain stem and spinal cord to stretch and tear.

Depending on the severity of the accident, whiplash injury can result in an extremely painful tearing of ligaments and muscles.

This neck injury commonly occurs from car accidents, contact sports, physical abuse or other trauma. If you’re experiencing symptoms of whiplash, The Specific Chiropractic Centers can help!

Whiplash Pain

Physical pain can be miserable no matter the circumstances, but whiplash is especially traumatic since this blow happens right where your brain stem meets your spinal cord.

Modern medical solutions often include addictive opioid pain medications, muscle relaxers, invasive physical therapies including injections to the neck and, in rare cases, expensive surgical procedures with little or no results or relief.

Fortunately, Upper Cervical Chiropractic provides a non-invasive, holistic approach to correcting damage from whiplash and neck injuries that has seen effective, long-term relief and recovery for hundreds of our patients.

Wouldn’t you rather try an effective alternative before choosing to take addictive medications or resorting to invasive (and expensive) medical treatments and surgeries?

Our patients who’ve seen recovery after experiencing whiplash injuries will tell you themselves- Upper Cervical Chiropractic is worth trying before resorting to invasive or potentially addictive options.

Symptoms of whiplash often develop within 24 hours of the injury (depending on the severity) but could take up to 6-8 weeks or sometimes more to show up. Signs of whiplash to look for include:

  • Neck pain, soreness and stiffness
  • Worsening of pain with continued movement
  • Loss of range of motion (inability to fully turn right or left)
  • Headaches and migraines (at the base of the skull that radiate towards the forehead)
  • Soreness, tenderness or pain can also form in your shoulders, upper back and arms
  • Tingling or numbness from your neck through your arms

Some people also experience:

  • Blurred vision
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Irritability
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Memory problems
  • Depression

Whiplash can also result in severe concussions.

Whiplash Treatment

Dr Bill Trevens providing whiplash treatment

At The Specific Chiropractic Centers, our philosophy is simple.

When specific bones in your neck that hold your brain stem become misaligned from whiplash injury, it results in pressure or “pinching” on this critical part of your body-  your brain stem.

If these cervical bones (the atlas and axis) are misaligned, the result is interference of messages being sent from your brain to the rest of your body.

Think of it this way: If you wrap a rubber band tightly around your finger,  you’ll begin to experience discomfort, numbness and pain after just a few minutes.

By removing the interference (the rubber band), your body is able to properly send and receive messages to this part of your body again allowing recovery.

This concept of removing interference is very similar to the Upper Cervical Chiropractic approach.

By removing the “pinching” and pressure of these bones on your brain stem (in a controlled way), your body is able to heal and regain ability to send messages to the rest of your nervous system.

The result is a relief from numbness, pain and many other side effects whiplash injury can cause.
